Garden Planted.......
I had been holding off on planting a garden because I just didn't know if we would be here at the end of the summer. After waiting a while I got $5 of free money from Ace Hardware and decided to use it on buying a few plants. I got 12 tomato plants, 4 brussel sprouts, 4 summer squashes, 4 peppers and 4 cucumbers. The kids and I then planted some seeds that I had like carrots, onions, lettuce, zucchini and broccoli. For just under $10 I planted all of this and the yield will be great.

Gabriel & Noah loved to help dig the holds for the plants and finding the worms was even more exciting. The other thing I love about planting a garden is letting the kids water it and picking the vegetables when they are ready. Anna has been a good helper with watering the plants during the heat. What a love about having a garden is giving the kids something to do and at the end of the season we get so much wonderful produce to eat.

Landscaping Plants.....
I was able to get some plants from my mother the last time we went home for a visit. It took me a good week & a half to get them planted, but I finally got it done. Here are a few pictures of the small plants. I am looking forward to seeing how they look at the end of next summer.

I think I have done a pretty good job at keeping the weeds out. Whenever I see one I grab my weed killer and give it a good spray. I'm very happy with the way that it looks.

Garden Progress.....
We had a pretty busy weekend, but I did manage to take a few pictures of the garden. It is doing very well. We had had a lot of rain and now the weather is pretty hot and humid, which makes the garden grow like crazy. This weather also helps the weeds to grow, but I have been doing pretty well at keeping a head of them. I am so picked a couple bowls of strawberries from my patch, which has been great. Gabriel loves fresh strawberries, but the other two kids don't.

Zucchini plants - I think I will be getting some pretty soon.
The tomato plants are doing great. I moved my plants this year to part of the garden that gets the longest sun light and it has helped because my plants are really big and better then they have ever been.
The string beans are doing very well. Thanks mom for the seeds. I also have been picking spinach for salads. The only plants that are still pretty small are my pepper plants. I'm not really sure why. The cucumbers & squash plants are growing well.
I also just picked some broccoli last night. We will be enjoying that for supper one of these nights.

So how is are garden growing?

Here's the plants that I started a while back...
I was hoping they would be a bit bigger. I guess we will just have to see if they take off when I get them in the garden. I also went to the green house today and bought up a bunch of other plantsl. I am hoping to fill all of my jars with tomato fixings at the end of the summer and have enough vegetables in the freeze to get us through till the end of next summer. It should not be to much of a problem. So how is everyone garden plans coming along?

Garden Tilled....
We got the garden cleaned off, the dirt tilled up and now it's ready to be planted.

I gave it a good rake with the garden rake to level it off.

I also noticed that I have asparagus coming up. Yum!! It's one of the favorite vegetables.

Here is also the rhubarb that I planted a few years ago. I got the plants from my Grandma Beulah. I am looking forward to Rhubarb Pie:)

Update on my Plants....

I am so surprised to see that I have tomato plants up out of the ground & cucumber plants as well. The kids were very excited. Now we just have to get the garden ready to do some planting. If it would stop raining maybe we could get the ground ready. One nice thing about the rain is it has green up the grass and all of my daffodil plants are up and ready to bloom.

Planted Seeds....
Last week Anna and I got some seeds started. I hat seen in a few gardening magazines people using egg cartons as planters, so that's what I used. One nice thing about egg cartons is they are free and they worked well.

The kids are excited to watch them grow and has been asking almost everyday if they can see the plants yet. I have to remind them that it will take a couple weeks before we will be able to see anything. I am even excited because I usually buy all my plants, but this year I wanted to try to grow some for the kids. I figure if it doesn't work out I can buy a few plants when I get ready to plant the garden.

Garden is growing like crazy......
As you can see my broccoli plants are huge.

Also my zucchini plants are really big and I will probably be picking some this week.

The tomatoes are also doing very well.

And you can see I have been doing very well at keeping the weeds out with some help from grass clippings:)

Growing Garden.....

We have had so much rain and humidity that the garden has been growing like crazy. I have also been able to pick up enough grass to cover the whole garden to keep the weeds down and the moisture in the ground. I planted tomatoes, peppers, broccoli, cucumbers, zucchini, eggplant, squash and cantaloupe. So how is everyone else's garden going this summer???

Busy Busy Busy......
My days seem to go by so quick lately and so I have been finding it harder to keep up on my blog posts. About a week ago I was able to get our garden in and as you can see in the pictures I had a couple little helpers. They have also helped me water the plants, since then. I am looking forward to having a wonderful garden this year and am hoping to keep the weeds under control Lord willing.
